Review - SISSP Exam Guide Fourth Edition - 8-11 and summary

Final chapters of CISSP book

First of all chapters 8 and 9 were quite good. There were some things i forgot from cryptography area and it was nice to refresh that. Business continuance chapter was even better as it actually had stuff that i did not previously realize. So i liked it quite a lot.

Unfortunately after a bit of hope book became horrible again. Application security and operations security chapters were just bad. Information was chaotically put together, author completely ignored many of technical aspects and details. Web session attacks are completely wrong or author just did not know what was it about.

Summary and score of CISSP book

After about 1200 pages i can say only that the book is not really worth buying. books should add structure to your knowledge, they should make missing pieces fit together. Books should describe difficult concepts in an easy to understand fashion. Books should be focused, write one book about one thing you know very well, don't try to write about every thing known to man as it will be rubbish.

Reading CISSP All-in-One Exam Guide Fourth Edition i had impression that it was attempt to become a know-all or something. Either author does not really understand many of the concepts or does not have skills to explain them in reasonable way.

Book is horribly long and there is no content to support that. Book should have 400 pages not 1200. Everything is covered and nothing is really well explained. You wont learn basics from this book as it does not explain things in simple way. If you know a lot already you will not learn a lot from it as it covers only basics from every area.

I have to say it is not a good book and i can not believe it has so many high notes on amazon etc. Its just not good, where is the admiration coming from? I am not sure. Any way all these posts are just my opinion and maybe i missed the point of the book or something.

Final score is: 3/10
