Review - Psychology and life

Now, that was an amazing book.

I got it as recommendation from my brother in law (he has degree in psychology). At first i thought it would be dry and hard to read but it was not like that at all. I was amazed how interesting was that book. I was also amazed that it talks about very serious stuff in a normal way that can be digested by normal people.

I wanted to read it to get some insights on myself and people i live close to. I think it was good time for me now for that book. I have turned thirty and i have not read this kind of books before. I have read some self improvement books and some pseudo psychology books but never anything that would be a university students book.

I have to say that book gives a nice basics and overview on the psychology study methods. In my opinion there was too much biology and too little of social psychology but its a entry level book so you can not have everything. On the other hand it is a good thing as shows you how much depends on your body and that perception is just a sort of illusion.

Any way, i like the final chapters the best. Some of the presented studies are just amazing in their cleverness and frightening when you read the results.

I got an old edition so cant say how is it now but for me the print was bit to small. Its a lot of reading so eyes get tired.

I would recommend it to people who want to understand more who they are or who are the people around them. It teaches a lot about relativity and tolerance. Even that many things you read are not new (i heard or read about them) it is valuable lesson to see them in systematic scientific context.

Final score: 10/10
